Amanda hasn't had a day off for a year - 'including Christmas Day and New Year's Eve', she tells friends. But then, consider the rewards: at 35, she is worth upwards of £100million. She has a huge house in Park Lane and another in Dubai, where she mainly lives, and where her neighbour is tennis champion Roger Federer.
Compare this with what her life might have been like had she done what her mother desperately wanted her to do and accepted a proposal of marriage from Prince Andrew.
Five years ago, the Prince was besotted with Amanda and desperate to marry her. In the two years he had known her, she had also become a Royal Family favourite. Prince Philip adored her company and let it be known in the family that he considered her to be 'an ideal choice' as the next Duchess of York.
Anyone else ever heard of her? I hadn't but then 5 years ago I wasn't really paying much attention...

This is an important issue and it's nice to know they used their fame for good but it's a politically touchy time to do it with Turkey trying to get into the EU and a royal (not Fergie but her girls) should not have been involved in that way.

Imho she has highlighted something we thought we would not see again, another 'Romania'. Where children without the safe arms of parents to hide in are treated as less than human. If anyone has anything to be embarrassed about, it should be the Turkish government, they have allowed this situation. And if the Royal family should be embarrass, well then they have learnt nothing from Diana, (which does not surprise me at all). Frankly this is what the family should be highlighting imho, the injustices that need to the light of broad daylight shone on them and exposed to so that they just are not allowed to exist at all. If you can't use your position to shame the less than good into doing the right thing then what is your purpose.

How many times has Charles wondered aloud 'what is my purpose'? Well imho his purpose and that of the royal families, is to stand up for those who are in no position to bring pressure to bear on those who do have the power to do what is right.

Nope the Duchess imho has done nothing wrong, and if her 'ex' family are embarrassed by her selfless actions to highlight the appalling conditions of children for whom no one will stand up for them, then they and not her should be the ones hanging their heads. I can tell you one thing, Diana would have been proud of her, this is classic Diana, she did this all the time.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1083454/Theres-Royal-ribbon-cutting-Princess-Beatrice-defends-TV-documentary-orphanages.html
Speaking at the launch the Duchess also rejected criticism of her daughters' involvement, insisting that her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, had given his blessing to the project and that it had been given the green light by both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Buckingham Palace.

'I don't do anything without the blessing of their [Beatrice and Eugenie's] father and had permission from the Foreign office and all the other sources,' she said.

'I actually fully agree with the Prime Minister's support for Turkey's case to become a member of the EU. This documentary has absolutely nothing to do with politics, it is a humanitarian cause and one that I am proud to be involved with as a mother of two incredible young girls.

'I would never in a million years do anything to embarrass the Royal Family. (Ari translates here"I would never in a million years deliberately do anything to embarass the Royal Family again") I support both the Queen and the Prince of Wales in everything they do.

'This is a personal project that I have undertaken as a mother along with Beatrice and Eugenie. We are very proud of what we have achieved and stand by the film.'

A spokesman for the Foreign Office made clear, however, that while they were aware of the Duchess's visit, they had not given their blessing to the trip.
'Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and her daughter were visiting Turkey in a private capacity. The views expressed in the programme are the Duchess's own view and do not represent the view of the UK government,' they said.
Why is the Royal Family so haphazard and run amok? It is a horribly run firm. While Fergie and her daughters should be free to do as they please, there should still be significant guidance to keep things like this from happening.

You know I never looked at the photos, but oh my the girl (I use that term loosely) in red guzzling out of a bottle. She needs to cover up badly, the dress is awful and that large birthmark, if that is what it is, needs concealer badly. As for the girl in the white corset, well what can you say, she must have been hot, to expose so much skin and not be concerned with catching a cold.

I hope my sons never go out with girls dressed like that, else I am going to have to stitch my mouth shut and that is going to be difficult.

ariadnoliver, you're so right. The sucking up to Kate Middleton is so stomach churning. I too have noticed that they (the DM) having been laying into both Eugenie and Bea of late. What gives, it's not their drinking themselves legless and falling out of nightclubs like the Windsor lads, the hypocrisy reeks.
