For more than a week Liechtenstein (population 35,000) and Germany (population 82 million) have been locked in an extraordinary row involving spies, bankers, a whistle-blower with a shady past, a furious prince - and tens of thousands of well-heeled but anonymous tax evaders. From Britain, from the US, from Australia but, above all, from Germany.
The cows seemed remarkably relaxed, even for animals free to roam lush, breathtaking Alpine pastures.

After rumours emerged about their strange behaviour, the Prince of Liechtenstein ordered official investigators to fan out across the mountains and inspect the country's dairy herds.

They returned with bad news: his farmers were feeding their cattle with cannabis.

Horrified, Prince Alois acted swiftly. Television crews from all over Europe were descending on the tiny Principality, nestling between Austria and Switzerland and the glare of publicity was the worst thing imaginable for its many investors who include some of the wealthiest - and most reclusive - individuals in the world.
I haven't finished reading this article yet but what on earth would possess a farmer to feed his cows cannabis?
Russian scientists have said they may have identified the missing remains of two of Tsar Nicholas II's children, who were executed after the revolution.
Experts said it was "highly probable" the remains found near Yekaterinburg in July were Alexei, the heir to the throne, and Maria, his elder sister.

They were missing when most of the family's remains were found in 1991.

The tsar, his wife and five children were shot dead by a Bolshevik firing squad in Yekaterinburg on 17 July 1918.

In 2000, the Russian Orthodox Church canonised the royal family, saying they had undergone suffering with gentleness, patience and humility.
Tomb of Chinese emperor found near terracotta army
Xi'an (China), Sep 29 (Xinhua) The first emperor of China would be rolling in his grave if he knew his Qin empire outlived him by only three years and its last emperor had since been lying within a kilometre of himself for 2,200 years.

A noted Chinese archaeologist, who was involved in the excavation and research of Qin Shihuang's terracotta army, has located the tomb of Ziying, the third and last emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.), about 500 metres northwest of the mausoleum of emperor Qin Shihuang in the suburbs east of Xi'an, capital of the north-western Shaanxi province.

Ziying's tomb, 109 metres long, 26 metres wide and 15.5 metres deep, was the second largest in the area after the grave of the first emperor, said Yuan Zhongyi, a former curator at the Museum of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang.

The tomb was found in 2003 outside the walls that encircled the mausoleum of Qin Shihuang. Archaeologists have since been trying to identify its occupant. Subsequent excavations of bronze ware and textiles indicated the tomb dated back to the Qin Dynasty.
LOL I am laughing, because until a MRM I did recently - I didn't know very much about Brunei, and now there is a HUGE royal wedding taken place there this week -- so big that it's made the news. :) With the exception of the bridal gold car (which, IMHO is on the gaudy side) I think this was a beautiful wedding. I also find it interesting that this wedding celebration isn't just a one day thing but has been a two-week celebration. I don't know anything about the customs - weddings or otherwise - of this country or even that part of the world. I would LOVE to learn more about their customs. If anyone here in RA knows, please please post about it in this forum so I can learn about Brunei's and this region of the world's customs and religion and traditions. I'm totally fascinated by the images I've so far seen of just this Royal wedding...I would love to learn MUCH MUCH more.
