Yes, they're not really tolerant of faults except when it comes to their own. But what is an even more scandalous is the story in this morning's edition about Edwina Mountbattern and Lord Mountbatten,

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1085883/The-royal-gigolo-Edwina-Mountbatten-sued-claims-affair-black-singer-Paul-Robeson-But-truth-outrageous-.html

The way that Charles has fawned over this man makes you wonder just what makes them tick. They could exile for life a blood brother, yet tolerate a man and his wife who have the morals of alley cats (and that is being kind to alley cats).

The royal family imho are not really 'royal' are they, in fact they give 'royal' a bad name. And when you look at who has been tossed out (Diana) and who has been given the 'red carpet' treatment (Camilla) should be so surprised. It would seem that anyone wanting to join this gene pool truly is lacking something.

The whole of the palace can't be open to the public- most of the palace is offices and employees spaces! The parts that are of public interest are already open when the Queen's not in residence for long periods of time. When I asked an employee why it's not opened at Christmas considering the Queen's not there then, she explained that it would be too difficult because the furniture has to be rearranged and stuff to make it tour ready. Having toured Windsor Castle, I understood what she meant. You walk along one side behind a barrier which is annoying cuz you can't see things up close and some of the walls are covered with plastic or glass... and then you see some of the people touching and grabbing at everything they can with their dirty wet hands (people are eating and drinking stuff right up to the entrance and then coming in) and you completely understand why they have to do that. The wear and tear from opening to tours would ruin the stuff. It's all they can do to keep an eye on unruly children and teens!

20 pounds sounds like way too much for the gardens to me too but then I don't care enough to pay to go see your average garden anyway... Maybe to see those sculpted ones like at the Beijing Olympics... I wonder why they came up with that amount and how much of it they will be allowed to keep to maintain the palace.

The price is a bit steep at 20 pounds. But personally, I think that the whole of Buckingham Palace should be open all except the private quaters of the Queen. After all if they want to repair and maintain it then they need to open it all the time as a proper tourist attraction.

I don't think he ever used it... I think he sounds too formal to have had a nickname haha! Honestly though, I don't know if he ever had a nickname. Probably would have been German though... Do Germans say Bertie? What's Albert in German? Albrecht? Einstein was German right? So I guess it would have been the same? haha I dunno...
ALBERT

is a nice boy's name of Old German origin. The meaning is "noble, bright, famous". It came from an Old French name, so Albert has Germanic (Frankish) roots. Bertie is a short pet variant; Aubert is used in France; Albrecht is more common in Germany; Albertino and Alberto are Italian names.

Albert has more than 27 variants: Abert, Adalbert, Adalbrecht, Adalberto, Adelbert, Adelbrecht, Adelbert, Ailbert, Al, Albertino, Alberto, Albertus, Albie, Albrecht, Albrekt, Allie, Alvert, Alvertos, Aubert, Bert, Bertie, Berty, Dalbert, Delbert, Elbert, Elbrecht and Ulbricht.

Diminutive baby names alike Albert are Albern, Albaro, Alberik, Alberic, Elber, Ulberto and Wilbert.
Yep, they changed the article. I copied and pasted my above quote. It had just said Prince Albert. I'm not sure about the picture. I only noticed the Henry VIII one the first time. That's one thing I hate about these online articles. We post them and comment and then they go ahead and change them and it makes us look stupid!

Also, it was King George VI who was called "Bertie". Did they call King Edward VII Bertie also? Just curious. :)

Re: The BBC 'fawns' over the Royal Family, says Jeremy Paxman

I don't know if I'd say the BBC fawns over the royal family (remember them faking the Queen walking out on Annie Liebowitz?) and quite frankly I have no respect for Jeremy Paxman.

However I do admit they do behave a little strange when talking about the royal family. It never feels like fawning from the broadcasters to me though. One guy always comments somewhat sarcastically "well they're our royal family so I guess this is big news" or "we don't normally broadcast on things like this but I suppose since this is the royal family". I can't remember his name but he can hardly hide his disgust at reporting on W&K on the rare occasion they do. Most of the time, the presenters look distinctly unimpressed at having to report any royal news and practically mock Nicholas Witchell or whatever his name is.

The only "fawning" I can see is that they report on the RF at all but then they occasionally report on other celeb happenings so I don't see the big deal. Neither while I was in the UK or now from BBC America do I see them reporting more often on the RF than on other celebs- they certainly report a lot more on the government ministers.

Basically, Jeremy Paxman has an Oliver Cromwell/ Napoleon complex.
